Chris O'Donnell: All-American Star
Published in Paperback by Harper Mass Market Paperbacks (October, 1996)
Author: Douglas A. Mendini
Average review score:

Chris O'Donnell: All-American Star
When I first saw this book, I knew it would be good, with Chris O'Donnell on the cover and a makes-you-want-to-read- synopsis, I knew this book would keep my eyes glued to the pages. Just like the synopsis, the book tells you about his childhood with personal facts and details on his upbringing, Which I didn't think was much different from mine. Secret childhood antics, interests - crushes on girls and his hobbies. It also gives details of his home life, pets and how he got on with his family.

The book goesthrough the stages of Chris's rise to fame and how he became a well known actor, with lots of info and the whole story of how he started out in front of the camera. All the gossip on what went on, on the film sets. The author gives a full explanation on the plot of his films and the roles Chris plays. It also has quotes from Chrishimself of how he has got on in his life so far and his future plans.

The book states the problems Chris had to deal with, such as tabloid stories about him. It also states Chris's happier moments such as the awards he has won and his name appearing on the nominee's list. Famous screen legends, Chris had made friends with, and the hot stuff provider describes his ideal women.

I gave the book 9/10 because it included:

· Interesting facts on him, I never knew before
· Good biography information
· Chris's personal thoughts and views on issue's
· Vital Statistics
· Filmography
· Gorgeous pics of Chris to make you swoon!

I didn't give it 10/10 because in some chapters the book goes off the story of Chris O'Donnell and focuses on his co-stars and other people associated with his films, and I really didn't want to read about anyone except Chris. That was the only bad point.

Overall, I think Chris O'Donnell: All - American Star is one of my favourite books. It's the ideal gift for any true Chris O'Donnell fan. I found out I have a lot in common with my favourite star, and the author Douglas A Mendini has researched well on Chris!. He has expressed in the pages of this book, O'Donnell's life through the good and bad times, but mostly the good times. He has told the whole story of how this little boy on his schools crew team became the boy wonder of the 90's we all know and love. But over everything, he has shown fans the REAL Chris O'Donnell.

Christianity and the Social Crisis (Library of Theological Ethics)
Published in Paperback by Westminster John Knox Press (January, 1992)
Authors: Walter Rauschenbusch and Douglas F. Ottati
Average review score:

An Interesting examination of the evolving American society
Walter Rauschenbusch, a devout Protestant minister, was horrified by what he described as the "social crisis" that permeated American society and politics in the early 1900s. Yet he did not despair or advocate "more government" as a solution. Rather, he argued compelling that the church must play a central role in restoring social order. Indeed, Rauschenbusch alleged that Christianity's future depended on its capacity to restore social harmony and to persuade businesses to feed the masses, not just cater to elites. Rauschenbusch extolled the value of community, "gemeinschaft, " and excoriated "gesellschaft, " an atomized, anonymous, individualistic society in which people are consumed by materialism and personal gain.
Rauschenbusch envisioned a Christian ethic that pervaded the social and economic lives of Americans. He blended ancient Christian thought with the new tools of social science, in order to identify and solve the "social crisis," arguing that "communism" (as he used the term) was fully consistent with Christianity. Rauschenbusch's burden was to show the people where, how, and why Christianity could help them.
Rauschenbusch was a seventh generation Lutheran minister, whose father emigrated to American from Germany in the 1850s. Rauschenbusch, the scholar, was a theologian at the Rochester Theological Seminary, where he taught for forty years. He also served the Second Baptist Church in New York City. Rauschenbusch, the theologian, historian, and sociologist published Christianity and the Social Crisis in 1907 and Christianizing the Social Order in 1912.

Christianity That Counts: Being a Christian in a Non-Christian World
Published in Paperback by Baker Book House (January, 1995)
Author: Douglas Groothuis
Average review score:

Christianity, brains required
This book is an enjoyable read. It is a series of essays on christian topics from truth, evangelism, new age and secularism. But the chapter that was such a delight for me was "Misology in the Pulpit". It is a challenge to pastors to incorporate apologetics in their sermons. So often christianity is thought of as a faith and no brains religion. As a young college student I find this assumption disturbing. He suggests how wonderful it would be if when we go to church on Eastar instead of hearing "He is risen!", we hear "He is risen, and this is the proof". I have often left church totally unchallenged, with nothing to meditate on. I think that there are alot of people in churches who would love to hear their religion explained with relevance in a secular culture. This book is a step in the right direction.

Clinicians' Guide to Sleep Medicine (Clinicians' Guides)
Published in Paperback by Edward Arnold (March, 2002)
Author: Neil J. Douglas
Average review score:

An essential guide
Sleep disorders are highly prevalent in our community but are under-recognised and under-treated by the majority of health care providers despite the huge explosion of knowledge over the last 20 years. Furthermore, there is evidence to suggest that most doctors receive little or no education in sleep medicine and in most countries, it is not yet a requirement to complete any amount of training time in this area.
A number of texts have been published in recent years in the field of sleep, but few are as up-to-date and accessible as the current publication by Douglas. In approaching this vast and still burgeoning area, he has logically and systematically categorised the various disorders of sleep, starting with sleep apnoea, and moving through narcolepsy, parasomnias, insomnia, phase shift disorders and diseases in which sleep may play an important role, e.g. COPD and asthma.
Throughout, Douglas has given a brief historical summary, followed by a description of the known mechanisms/aetiologies of each particular disorder. His description of the physiology and pathophysiology of the upper airways in relation to sleep apnoea is unparalleled - well structured and easy to follow. The references are current or relate to seminal work in the area under discussion, which is an additional bonus to those stimulated to look further afield. Basic facts are well presented, the book is replete with diagrams, tables and lists of differential diagnoses or management strategies which all serve to strengthen the messages in the text.
The text itself is clear and engaging; the style straightforward and factual.
This book serves as both an introduction to sleep medicine for the student, clinician or practising physician and as a summary for those already engaged in the field. As textbooks and reference books go, this one is to be highly recommended and should be a staple addition to the medical bookshelf.

Coffee Antiques
Published in Paperback by Schiffer Publishing, Ltd. (01 February, 2000)
Authors: Edward C. Kvetko and Douglas Congdon-Martin

Picture Pretty Antiques
This is a beautifully-illustrated book and one my husband will treasure as one of his favorites. He recently started collecting old coffee mills so I bought this one for him as a surprise gift to get him started. He immediately started looking through it and FOUND the "two" grinders he has at this point. Boy, was he excited! I think I have created a "millaholic" as a result of buying him this book. The pictures and accompanying text are extremely helpful in the identifcation of many mills. We highly recommend it for the beginning collector. There's something in it for everyone from the pricey floor grinders to mills for the modestly pocketed collector, plus it also has an accompanying array of pictures of coffee makers and coffee memorabilia. Great book -- wish they would come out with a follow-up.

If anyone knows of any other coffee mill/grinder antique books that are out there and available would you let me know. I am on another quest.

Thanks ...

Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy of Schizophrenia
Published in Hardcover by Guilford Press (10 December, 1993)
Authors: David Kingdon and Douglas Turkington
Average review score:

A Review
This book is clear, concise, and perspicacious. It brakes down the elements of schizophrenia and its symptoms into understandable, although exaggerated, human experiences. This book would be excellent for any friends and family members of people with schizophrenia, or other psychotic disorders. Kingdon and Turkington describe the intellectual process of psychosis in terms that allow the lay person to comprehend the illness.

The Collected Tales of A. E. Coppard (Supernatural and Occult Fiction)
Published in Hardcover by Ayer Co Pub (December, 1976)
Authors: Alfred Edgar Coppard and Douglas A. Menville
Average review score:

"Selected," not "Collected" Stories
Despite the title of this book, it is far from a complete edition
of A. E. Coppard's short stories. I own the Knopf edition, which
came out back in the 1950's, and it contains 38 stories selected
from a corpus of over 200.

The selection is good and satisfying, but some of the omissions
are peculiar. In particular, I'd single out the absence of the
story "Black Dog," one of Coppard's best novella-length works.

The selection as such has no real clunkers, and it could serve
as a good introduction to Coppard's work, if the book can be
located. Coppard seems unjustly neglected these days, so it
might be difficult if one plans to wait for a new edition of
his work.

Personally, I'd like to see a _Complete Stories_, which I
would buy in a heartbeat. Such an occurrance seems of low
probability these days.

Readers who like these stories might give the stories of
Walter de la Mare, Frank O'Connor, and D.H Lawrence a
try (not Lawrence's novels, which are very different).

Collectors Guide to Colt's 38 Automatic Pistols: The Production of the Automatic Colt Pistol
Published in Paperback by Douglas G. Sheldon (February, 1987)
Author: Douglas G. Sheldon
Average review score:

Definitive work
Doug Sheldon's Collector's Guide to Colt's .38 Automatic Pistols is THE definitive work on Colt's earliest automatic pistols, and the perfect complement to Donald Bady's Colt Automatic Pistols. I've used Sheldon's well-illustrated and detailed reference book regularly to substantiate inspector markings and production and ledger notes that result from his detailed analysis of the original Colt factory ledgers. His work is straightforward, concise, and well organized. The photographs, especially detailed closeups, are sharp and revealing. This book is a must-have for any collector of early Colt Automatic Pistols.

Color Atlas of Clinical Oral Pathology
Published in Hardcover by Lea & Febiger (November, 1990)
Authors: Brad W. Neville, Douglas D. Damm, Dean K. White, and Charles A. Waldron
Average review score:

Excellent review and reference
This atlas provides clear color photos highlighting the classic presentations of pathological lesions in and around the oral cavity. The text descriptions are a bit brief in some cases, but references are provided for further reading. I find it to be an excellent review and reference.

Color Your World
Published in Paperback by Inner Traditions Intl Ltd (March, 1984)
Authors: Frank Don, Douglas, and Slingernik
Average review score:

Funny how these things work out
I've read a lot of books on color ray work and numerology but this is the first one that was so clear, so concise in its approach.

Easy to read and easy to use, I've amazed friends and clients for years using the principles. The readings you can put together are so very acurate that it's almost scary.

Not only that, it was a real joy to read through. I hope it gets reprinted.
